AI Workplace Automation Shakes Markets as Mozilla Champions Privacy

Elon Musk announced on February 11 that xAI has undergone a reorganization following the completion of its acquisition by SpaceX, with the move "requiring parting ways with some people" to improve execution speed. The record-breaking merger values the combined entity at one point two five trillion dollars, making it the largest corporate combination in history. SpaceX is valued at one trillion dollars while xAI contributes two hundred fifty billion dollars to the combined valuation. The deal is structured as a share exchange, converting each xAI share into zero point one four three three SpaceX shares.

Musk cited a strategic rationale focused on building orbital data centers, arguing that terrestrial AI infrastructure cannot meet global electricity demand without imposing hardship on communities and the environment. According to TechCrunch, the combined company plans to launch AI data centers in space, with a potential blockbuster SpaceX initial public offering expected later this year.

Mozilla introduced a groundbreaking privacy feature on February 6 that allows Firefox users to opt out of AI training datasets and demand deletion of their personal data from AI companies with a single click. The tool will debut globally with Firefox version one forty-eight on February 24, representing the first time a major browser has offered centralized, automated AI privacy controls.

The feature centers on a master switch called "Block AI enhancements" that physically removes AI model weights from the browser, suppresses AI-related user interface elements, and deactivates background processes. When toggled, Firefox effectively purges its local footprint of generative AI tools entirely.

Mozilla built the system using an expanded version of the Global Privacy Control framework, introducing a new technical header called Sec-GPC-AI-Training: zero that sends automated data removal requests to AI companies. According to Privacy Guides, this represents a major milestone for user control over how personal data is used in machine learning systems, addressing widespread concerns about AI training practices.
